Parks and Trails: There are two parks within Brookdale: “Brookdale Park,” on Dalton Road off Westport, has play equipment in addition to space for picnics; and “Boundary Park” at Western Ave and River Road is maintained as a conservation space.  On River Road just north of Willard Ave. are an additional park, playground, and hiking trail.  Some Brookdale residents also use the park at Fort Bayard across Western Ave. from our Boundary Park and a playground on Western Avenue at Livingston.

Public Libraries: The nearest branch in the public library system is Little Falls Library, at 5501 Massachusetts Ave., northwest of Little Falls Parkway. (You may request books from other branches to be held there for you to pick up.) The Connie Morella Library is at 7400 Arlington Rd.  Montgomery County residents are also eligible for library privileges in the District of Columbia.

Voting and governmental districts: Our County Council District is 1. School Board District is 3. State Legislative District is 16. Congressional District is 8. Most residents of Brookdale vote at Westbrook Elementary School (Precinct 07-07), 5110 Allan Terrace, west of Brookdale; but homes southeast of Park Avenue are in Precinct 07-27, voting at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church at 5450 Massachusetts Avenue.

Recyclables and trash are collected from the curb every Friday. Use the County’s blue bins for recycling. Aluminum and “tin” cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles and grocery “clamshells” are collected in one bin. All forms of paper or cardboard (without metal attached) should be in a separate bin. Lawn trimmings, including tree cuttings can be put in paper bags or trash cans. Branches up to 4’can be tied in a bundle. Each fall the County vacuums leaves swept to the curb.  For collection of items too large for the usual containers, you may request a special collection.
